CODENAME: CAGNEY PACK CARS
Speed vs Power
Here are the vehicles and paint-jobs for that we introduced for our downloadable content pack codenamed Cagney
This is the first car in a Burnout game that does not feature boost!
We've given you plenty of cars with boost, but supporting Burnout Paradise with downloadable content is as much about changing the formula as anything. We challenged ourselves to bring you a car that plays unlike anything else in the game.
The Olympus is absolutely unique within Paradise City. Here's what you need to know:
First of all, it's very heavy, so it's slow to accelerate.
Second, its top speed is awesome, so once you've maxed it out, it's hard to beat.
And third, it weighs a ton. Only impacts with buses and buildings will stop it, so while you'll need all your skills to stay on the road, you can pretty much forget about traffic!
Here, we show just how this massive new vehicle compares with some of Paradise City's favourites - the Chrome Inferno van (nicknamed "the toaster"), the Montgomery Hawker and another heavyweight contender the Hunter Takedown 4x4.
The Rai-jin may be the fastest car in Burnout Paradise, but it's not for the faint-hearted. This is a thoroughbred race machine - a true test of your driving skills!
To access this online-only car, join or host any online game and head for the nearest Junkyard. It's located at the far right of your vehicle collection. Don't forget, when you leave the online session, you leave the car behind.
The Rossolini Tempesta Dream is a beautiful, sleek variation on the classic Tempesta.
And, what better way to showcase its style, grace and elegance, than setting Iain A loose in it in a brutal race against the guys from our QA team...
We got a huge number of great designs through and it was a tough call on the final cars.
In the end, the Paradise Car team picked out 2 winners: the "Oval Steel Racer" and the "Carson Hippie Van"
Oval Steel Racer
This car's got Burnout written all over it - raw, menacing and tough. The Car Team wanted to retain the spirit of the original design, when bringing it to life in Paradise's usual crystal-clear detail and style.
Here's the original design sent through by our winner.
And here are some shots of the car as it looks in Paradise City.
The biggest challenge was getting the back of the car right. We didn't include this in the template, and it's the part of the car you see most, when you play.
We tried putting another set of eyes there, but changed it, because we wanted it to feel like there was only one "soul" inside the car. In the end we went for torn metal, which looks awesome.
Both these designs came from a Polish fan - Krzysiek Ociepka. We wanted to give him credit for the designs in the game, so we gave him a signature on the cars - you can clearly see his PSN ID: "Crazysztof" on the back and side of the car!
Hippie Van
Here's the original design:
This design was a million miles from anything we'd have done ourselves during Paradise production. And that's why we love it!
Burnout Paradise is not just about taking each other down. There's some cooperation in there, too! The message here is all about social gameplay - the "Make Love not War Van" is the perfect reminder.
